A full-scale replica of 'Isaac Peral's' submarine emerges in the centre of Madrid,SPAIN
Yesterday, 17 March, was International Submarine Day, and was commemorated with the installation, in the centre of Madrid, of a full-scale prototype of the submarine designed by the scientist and military man Isaac Peral.

Isaac Peral was a Spanish scientist, sailor and military man, Navy lieutenant and inventor of the first fully functional electric-powered torpedo submarine, known as the Peral submarine.
His submarine would not be surpassed until more than ten years later, in 1895, by John Phillip Holland. Isaac Peral is therefore considered "the inventor of the submarine", not because his was the first vessel to be submerged, but because he revolutionised the history of military navigation with definitive changes.

Three great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren of Isaac Peral also took part in the unveiling ceremony.

The replica of the prototype of the submarine has been built expressly for this informative action.

The piece has been made by the company Matiss creac-ción, dedicated since 2003 to creating, designing and producing works of art. For the recreation of the Isaac Peral, EPS (expanded polystyrene), phenolic pine boards with a polyurea coating and a polychrome finish have been used.
