Rowers raced in glow-in-the-dark dragon boats during a Roman Catholic festival in the Philippines.

Contestants from different villages paddled their decorate vessels from a pier across the ocean in Tagbilaran City, Bohol province on March 18.

Aerial drone footage shows how the spectacular dragon boats glowed bright blue, green, red, and yellow as the sun set across the bay.

The Saulog Festival competition is part of the two-month-long Saulog Tagbilaran Festival, which is making a return this year following three years of hiatus due to the pandemic.

Tagbilaran City Mayor Jane Yap said the event - a thanksgiving celebration for the city's patron saint, Joseph the Worker - will include grand street parades, food fairs, dances, and boat racing, culminating in a religious feast on May 1.

The Bohol Paddlers Association which organised the dragon boat race said the glowing vessels will also be featured for the upcoming Bohol Island Dragon Boat Festival scheduled this July.
