Locals held a bizarre competition comparing the sizes of their frogs at an agricultural fair in Thailand.

Frog breeders from more than 10 farms across Thailand and the neighbouring country of Communist Laos participated in the contest in Udon Thani province on March 19.

Their pet amphibians were divided into male and female categories, and were judged based on size, beauty, 'integrity', and health.

Frogs with disabilities or illnesses were disqualified from joining.

The amphibian contestants were placed inside transparent containers to be weighed and observed by the judges. However, there were several mishaps as some of the frogs kept hopping off the table, while others proceeded to mate with each other.

All of the female frogs weighed more than 500 grams, while the male frogs, which are commonly smaller, weighed less than that.

A male frog weighing 410 grams from the Tawan farm bagged first prize in the male category, while a female frog weighing a whopping 810 grams from Rambai farm won in the female category.

The first-place winners were awarded 2,000 baht (58 USD), while the second and third placers won 1,500 baht and 1,000 baht (44 USD and 29 USD) respectively.

A consolation prize of 500 baht (15 USD) was given to the other contestants.

The strange frog pageant was part of the Kaset Fair, where locals were also taught how to breed frogs.
