A couple of devotees were scalded after they fell during a ritual that required them to walk over a bed of burning embers.

Footage recorded on March 18 in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, shows two women taking tumbles as they crossed the burning bed of embers at Mariamman temple.

Fortunately, spectating devotees were on hand to quickly pull the women up off the floor.

The two both escaped with just minor injuries.

Fire walking takes several forms, the most common practice of walking swiftly over a layer of embers spread thinly along the bottom of a shallow trench. Sometimes the devotees or priests or oracles have to walk through a blazing log fire. This incident happened in Mariamman temple in Thiruvaiyaru where many devotees walked on the embers they slipped on them and fell in the layers of embers. Two women devotees got burnt and luckily pulled out by the nearby devotees. Hence they both survived.
