A baby monitor lizard attempted and failed to walk through a transparent glass shopfront.

CCTV footage shows the reptile scurrying on the sidewalk before trying to pass through the wall in Surat Thani province, Thailand on March 14.

A passerby saw the creature and seemingly wanted to help the confused animal.

However, the lizard ran away and disappeared after crawling down a drain it found on the side of the road.

Asian water monitor lizards normally live in canals, swamps, sewers and ponds in cities in Thailand. They feed on fish, snakes, frogs and scraps of food left by humans.

The reptiles are aggressive when threatened and have a mildly venomous bite which sometimes carries harmful bacteria. The Godzilla-like reptiles are also a protected species in the country so their population thrives.
