A protective pet dog kept a monitor lizard from entering a family's home.

The pooch Bombom was playing in the garage with his siblings when the wild reptile emerged among the potted plants in Bangkok, Thailand on March 21.

Bombom dashed toward the 4ft-long creature and blocked its way but the agile lizard slipped through the dog's guards.

The chase continued until they reached the back kitchen with the dog still hunting the animal and preventing it from heading to the doors.

A few moments later, the lizard revealed itself and escaped by plunging into the canal.

The resident said: ‘We live close to nature. We find all sorts of animals trying to enter our house but the dogs keep us safe.'

To flee from the dog, the clever reptile hid under a parked sedan as Bombom searched. When it found the chance, the lizard scurried across the kitchen and jumped into the water.

He added: ‘One time, we found a king cobra crawling near the water container. The dogs scared it away and escaped to the canal too.'
