Hollow bamboo stem holds 1000°C steel ball without burning
A 3D mapmaker in Japan showed how a hollow bamboo stem held a 1000°C steel ball without burning up.
Fascinating footage shows the glowing orange orb sitting atop a piece of bamboo, its bottom hemisphere covered in flames.
Despite the intense heat, the bamboo was only slightly charred at its point of contact with the ball.
The Osaka-based craftsman said: 'The steel ball was extremely hot so I was surprised that the bamboo remained intact.'
He believed the bamboo was relatively undamaged because it was hollow, allowing the heat to dissipate through the air, and because the points of contact between the two objects were small.
