This further footage shows clashes between police and crowds, and an officer bleeding from the head before public order shields are handed out.

The video was shot amid '#sikhlivesmatter ' protests outside the Indian high commission yesterday. One policeman was injured during the demonstration and more than 20 reportedly arrested.

The filmer wrote online: "I happened to be walking to my campus past the Indian High Commission when a peaceful Sikh protest was met with violence by the police."

The protests, that caused severe disruption, are part of a global movement over the treatment of ethnic minorities in India.

They were trying to raise awareness and express their opposition to alleged Indian Government inaction against, and even sponsorship of, murders and other rights abuses against Sikhs in Punjab. A woman was allegedly attacked by police officers according to bystanders. One police officer was admitted to hospital according to news reports, who I believe is the officer videoed with blood on his face.
