This footage captured the moment an American cryptocurrency "guru" got arrested at his luxury villa on Koh Samui island, Thailand.

John Barksdale was detained by the FBI on similar charges three tears ago at the age of 37.

The clip shows the man being arrested by immigration police after complaints about his "Ormeus Coin" product. He was seen emerging from his room without a shirt before being led past his swimming pool with stunning ocean views and bundled into a police car.

Officers took him to the capital Bangkok 480 miles away where they probed the complaints following an arrest warrant from the Bangkok Criminal Court. No charges were upheld after the case was discreetly settled with the complainant. John Barksdale faces up to 65 years in prison.

Barksdale was arrested by the FBI along with his sister JonAtina Barksdale, also known as Tina, in March 2022. Federal authorities filed charges accusing the pair of defrauding retail investors out of millions of dollars with a digital token known as Ormeus Coin.

In papers filed in Manhattan federal court, the justice department said John Barksdale lied about the value and profitability of Ormeus Coin’s mining assets, including that the coin was backed by a $250m mining operation generating more than $5m of monthly revenue.

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) said the Barksdales since 2017 raised $124m from more than 20,000 investors through their multi-level marketing company Ormeus Global SA and spent millions of dollars on travel, real estate, and other personal expenses.
