Police in North Macedonia discovered an escape tunnel, measuring 131 feet in length, which had been dug by a group of eight inmates at Idrizovo Penitentiary.

The inmates, all serving sentences ranging from 10 years to life imprisonment, had been planning their escape for two months.

Officials managed to secure the tunnel before anyone could flee. The tunnel was over three feet deep and 31 inches wide, and contained plastic baskets and an electric light bulb.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs is conducting further investigations into the case.

This footage was filmed and produced on March 22.
