CCTV shows moment fire rips through homes in Thailand
Two people were injured after a fire broke out in the storage area of a house in Thailand.
Surveillance cameras captured the moment the blaze erupted at the home in Soi Rattana Rat in Samut Prakan province on March 26 at 1 AM.
Smoke was seen wafting towards a garage before a loud bang jolted residents.
Homeowner Parinyaporn Thongdee said she had been preparing for bed when she heard the unusual noise, prompting her to check the CCTV cameras.
She then saw the smoke clouds, and hurriedly notified her neighbours to evacuate their houses, which were closely packed and made of flammable materials.
Footage shows a family hurrying to drive their pickup truck out of the garage, while other locals ineffectually threw buckets of water onto the growing fire.
Firefighters rushed to the scene and managed to bring the flames under control within an hour.
The fire was said to have originated in a former restaurant, where an unused fuel tank was being stored. It engulfed three houses and injured two people - a firefighter wounded by an exploding paint can, and resident Suparb Papol, who was burned on his arms and legs while running through the fire to escape.
Suparb, also the owner of the restaurant, said he and his family were sleeping when they heard the neighbours shouting there was a fire.
When he went to check outside, he saw that the flames had come dangerously close to their home. He said he grabbed a briefcase full of valuables before sprinting through the inferno.
He added that he was keeping a portable gas cylinder in the restaurant, which had been closed for a while, but did not know how the fire started.
Police Captain Weeraphong Apaiwong of Bang Phli Police Station said he has conducted an inspection and interrogated the residents. He said further investigations will be made with forensics police to determine the cause of the fire.
