A British tourist and his Korean accomplice have been arrested over an alleged violent robbery from a cannabis shop in Thailand.

Markus Powell, 47, from Nottingham and Myoung Kyu Lee, 52, from Seoul, were both detained on March 27 following the raid on the THC Trade Herbs and Cannabis store in Pattaya on Saturday.

Shop owner Parinya Pansing, 44, told police that the pair had attacked his co-owner, Korean national Namil Kim, took the man's wallet containing 5,000 baht (118 GBP) and escaped with the store's safety box carrying around 170,000 baht (4034 GBP).

Surveillance video shows Myoung Kyu Lee repeatedly kicking and pummelling his fellow Korean, who could only hunch over in his seat while taking the beating.

In another clip, Englishman Powell is seen wearing an orange vest while hauling the shop's vault out of the building.

The suspects then fled in a car but were easily identified from the CCTV footage. They were arrested on Monday, along with Irishman Mark Holgate, 53, suspected to be involved in the robbery.

Officers said they are questioning Powell and Kyu Lee on suspicion of trespassing and theft while they are now investigating Holgate's involvement in the theft.

Police Captain Sarawut Silsai, who is leading the investigation, said: 'Two suspects have been arrested and we are interrogating them to find out which other people were involved.

'The shop worker was traumatised after the attack and the shop owner was also very shocked. They both said they do not know the cause of the robbery.

'Money was stolen from the shop so we are trying to have that returned to the owner.'
