India has welcomed the birth of four cheetah cubs more than 70 years after the species was declared extinct in the country.

Footage shows the cubs at Kuno National Park, Rajasthan, after their mother named Siyaya gave birth.

The country has been attempting to reintroduce the species for decades and last year bought eight cheetahs over from Namibia - Siyaya was one of them.

A cheetah, which was translocated to India last year from Namibia, has given birth to four cubs in central India's Madhya Pradesh.

This happened at Kuno National Park on March 29.

Visuals showed the adorable newborn cubs. According to a report, they were born to a cheetah named Siyaya. Their birth comes as good news for Project Cheetah, which saw India translocate eight cheetahs from the African nation to the Kuno National Park, on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday. Earlier, a cheetah, named Sasha had died of a kidney ailment.
