Two homes were heavily damaged, but no injuries were reported, in a multi-alarm fire in the 800 block of West Chestnut Street Tuesday night.
Heavy fire was visible from the second floor, rear porch of 828 W. Chestnut St. when first responders arrived at about 8:30 p.m.
A group of firefighters to the rear of 822 W. Chestnut St. used a hose line with water supplied by a nearby engine in an attempt to douse the flames, which had already spread into the adjoining home at 828 W. Chestnut St.
Ladder trucks from Ralpho Fire Co. and Shamokin Rescue Fire Co. were positioned in the parking lot of Keefer’s Garage and intersection of Owl and Chestnut streets, respectively, to allow firefighters to gain access to the roofs.
Crews on the ground entered both buildings, likely preventing the flames from spreading to 834 W. Chestnut St.
About 15 minutes into the incident, flames began shooting from the roof and eaves of 822 W. Chestnut St. as firefighters continued to work inside the home.
Firefighters began the process of overhaul, or looking for hot spots, by 9:40 p.m.
As of press time, a number of companies remained at the scene. It was unknown what started the blaze.
2 Firefighters were treated for injuries.
