Aerial footage shows the damage caused by a forest fire that engulfed a mountain in central Thailand on March 29.

Smoke billowed from forests still burning from an inferno that erupted in Nakhon Nayok province.

Authorities said today that the fire had damaged 300 acres of land and was still spreading due to strong winds.

A Russian-made KA-32 helicopter and two Mi-17 helicopters were deployed to extinguish the flames.

The blaze was reportedly sparked by lightning during a summer storm, with strong winds spreading and intensifying the flames.

Ten firefighting trucks were at the scene and officers had put up fire breaks to keep the blaze from breaching residential areas.

Nakhon Nayok governor Bancha Chewarin said authorities were monitoring the situation using drones. He has urged frightened locals to stay patient as it was too risky for firefighters to tackle the forest fire at night.
