A car's radar system detected numerous people nearby despite there being no one in sight when a man visited a cemetery to pay respects to his ancestors ahead of Tomb-Sweeping Festival (April 5) in northern China.

Video filmed in the city of Shenyang in Liaoning Province on March 28 shows a screen on a Li Auto L9 car displaying several people walking and cycling around the vehicle, despite there being no one in sight.

Qingming Festival, also called Tomb-Sweeping Festival, is celebrated 15 days after the Spring Equinox, usually between April 3 and April 5. Chinese families visit the tombs of their ancestors to clean the gravesites and make ritual offerings to their ancestors.

According to the car owner, the vehicle's heads-up display initially showed shadows moving around, piquing his curiosity. He then decided to activate the central control radar and to his surprise, the screen displayed several people walking and cycling around his car.

The car owner reported the case to the car's technical department and they stated that they need to investigate the backend data.

A representative from the Chinese automobile manufacturer named Li Auto responded on March 29, attributing the incident to a deviation in the sensing and recognition system.

They expressed their apologies to the car owner for any inconvenience caused and promised to optimise the algorithm and strengthen the recognition capabilities of the car's radar in the future.

The representative also explained that the car's radar technology is based on a fusion of laser radar and visual cameras and is limited by the current market's sensor recognition capabilities, which may cause display abnormalities in certain situations. They are planning to improve recognition capabilities through OTA algorithm optimisation in the future.
