This is the dramatic moment a lucky dog survived a huge glass window collapsing onto him during a raging storm in Thailand.

The stray pooch was waiting to be let inside a classroom as the storm battered the Si Chomphu Suksa School in Khon Kaen province on March 28.

When a teacher opened the door for the canine, the entire glass partition was blown down by the gales.

The windows crashed on the dog, but he managed to scamper out from under the rubble safely - without suffering any injuries.

The storm had also blown two glass windows from their frames in the classroom.

School director Boonchan Moolgun said the Provincial Administrative Organisation said the dog is a stray who wanders freely around the school, where he is fed by pupils and teachers.

Boonchan said: 'The dog is very lucky to survive the window falling on him. He lives around the school so we will take good care of him.'

Staff have now assessed the damage caused by the tropical storm. They estimated repairs to broken windows and roofs to be around 400,000, adding repairs must be completed before the school reopens on May 15.

Boonchan added: 'The school has been closed since March 15, but the teachers were there to prepare for the upcoming semester and also to take night shifts for security.

'I'm relieved that the incident occurred while the school was closed since repairs will be easier. None of the teachers were injured.'

One of the teachers, Chareenat Chaisurin, said the group were eating dinner when they heard the wind eerily howling outside. They moved their seats to a corner of the room, just in time before the windows collapsed sending shards of glass everywhere.

The Thai Meteorological Department said the southerly and southeasterly winds were prevailing over the country's central, eastern, and northeastern regions.

High temperatures with isolated thunderstorms and gusty winds are expected in northern Thailand, the agency said.

Thailand and other countries in Southeast Asia are approaching their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms.
