A wild monitor lizard wandered into a room while women played cards.

The cheeky reptile didn't mind the residents and casually scampered through the front door of the home in Phang Nga province, Thailand on March 24.

Footage shows the 4ft-long creature interrupting the game - which is illegal in the country - as it emerged at the entrance.

It sparked panic among the women who rushed to flee while the animal walked into the house.

Resident Punyaphat Phaeyai said: ‘The monitor lizard didn't care that there were five people in the house. It was scary.'

As the women shouted, Punyaphat added the creature eventually left on its own.

Punyaphat said: ‘It ran back to the garden while everyone screamed in panic. It didn't hurt anyone.'

Asian water monitor lizards normally live in canals, swamps, sewers and ponds in cities in Thailand. They feed on fish, snakes, frogs and scraps of food left by humans.

The reptiles are aggressive when threatened and have a mildly venomous bite which sometimes carries harmful bacteria. The Godzilla-like reptiles are also a protected species in the country so their population thrives.
