Floods have submerged hundreds of houses in densely populated in Indonesia.

Footage filmed in Bukittinggi, West Sumatra, on 28 March, shows the torrential flood came swiftly that afternoon.

The flood level on the street was up to 5 feet, while inside the house the water level was up to 3 feet.

Ghiska Syafira, the filmer when the flood came, said the water flowed swiftly into the house and submerged the complex.

"We were eating iftar, suddenly the water immediately rose, so we stopped eating to save furniture and goods from flooding," Syafira added.

In the footage, residents can be heard asking officers to evacuate them amidst the increasingly heavy floods.

Not long after, officers came to evacuate residents using rubber boats.

Head of RW I Pulai Anak Air, Yusri Effendi, said that 350 residents were affected by the floods.

The flood receded an hour later after the rain stopped.

Evacuated residents returned to their homes to clean up the remaining mud from the flood.

Settlements that are located in the lowlands and have problems with irrigation canals are often flooded when extreme weather occurs.

According to Effendi, that day floods are the second worst after the floods that occurred ahead of last year's Idul Fitri.
