Metropolitan Pavel, the abbot of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra monastery in the Ukrainian capital, was asked to be put under house arrest during a court hearing in the Ukrainian capital on Saturday, April 1 due to accusations of his pro-Russian stance and justifying Russia’s aggression.

Footage filmed by Syspilini shows Pavel in court and later leaving with his personal security team as his supporters gather and sing outside of the monastery.

Throughout the week, Pavel had strongly resisted authority orders to vacate the revered Orthodox site, and he even cursed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and threatened him with damnation.

In the Shevchenkivskyi court of Kyiv, a court session has begun regarding the selection of a preventive measure for the former "abbot" of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, "Metropolitan" Pavlo

The meeting is held in closed session. Journalists are not allowed into the courtroom.

After the suspicion was handed over to the abbot of the Lavra, Pavel, his building in the monastery was cordoned off by the police, searches are being carried out, Pavel himself has already left with guards.

The SBU summoned Pasha Mercedes for questioning at 12:00. After that, the issue of choosing a measure of restraint will be decided.
