The largest oil refinery in Indonesia exploded, causing severe damage to houses in the surrounding area.
A massive explosion occurred at the Pertamina RU II Dumai oil refinery in Riau on Saturday night (4/1/2023). According to Dumai Police Chief AKBP Nurhadi Ismanto, the explosion originated from the refinery's kitchen.
"It is preliminary information that the explosion occurred in the kitchen of the Pertamina RU II Dumai refinery," he said.
However, the initial information still needs to be confirmed. The explosion took place at 22:40 WIB and caused severe damage to several houses in the surrounding area.
As of now, there have been no reports of casualties from the explosion. However, authorities are currently evacuating and responding to the incident site.
The Pertamina RU II Dumai oil refinery is one of the largest oil refineries in Indonesia. Pertamina has not issued an official statement regarding the incident.
