Stray kittens trapped in a drain outside a veterinary clinic were rescued.

The soft cries were initially thought to be coming from the pets visiting the vet until a worker from a nearby business noticed it was coming from under the floor in Bangkok.

Upon confirming the location of the creatures, firefighters were called to help free the cats.

Footage shows the fire volunteers pulling boards and concrete lids off the drain on March 29. They traced where the kittens were and found them tucked in a narrow hole a few inches above the flooded drain.

Onlooker Argrietong said: 'We knew the cat sounds were strange. They seemed to call for help.

‘They might be from a stray cat that gave birth on the roof. Her babies fell through the gutter drain.'

The kittens were unhurt and adopted by the salon owner and the vet.
