Extinction Rebellion protesters and concerned residents wave flags and hold placards as the Russian research vessel Akademik Alexander Karpinsky docks in the Table Bay harbour in Cape Town, South Africa.

Protesters hold banners reading "Seismic ship ho home!" and "Hands off Antarctica now and forever".

The video features an interview with one of the activists. She says:

"We are concerned about the fact that it has been conducting seismic blasting and other research in the Antarctic. We are concerned that they are searching for fossil fuels and we are concerned that they are damaging amazing marine life down there".

Protesters waved flags and held placards as the Akademik Alexander Karpinsky docked in the Table Bay harbour in Cape Town earlier today.

The research vessel , according to protesters is doing Seismic Blasting and exploration in the polar regions.

Rosgeo the Russian state owned exploration company said earlier this year that they have been conducting research for hydrocarbons in the region since the 197o's. This, despite a 1998 amendment to the Antarctic treaty which prohibits exploration in the region. South Africa & Russia are signatories to this 55 nation treaty.
