A falling tree branch narrowly missed passing cars on a highway.

Dashcam footage shows the massive bark weakened froma recent storm breaking off the hardwood and crashing into the road in Surat Thani province, Thailand, on March 31.

Fortunately, it landed between two vehicles, one swerving to the right to avoid it. The dashcam owner's driver managed to stop before crashing, but the branch smashed the windscreen.

No one was seriously hurt in the incident, and the tree caused a traffic jam. Locals rushed to help clear the debris.

Driver Chantima Sothamat said: ‘Hopefully, someone will take responsibility for what happened. The Department of Highways must check and see for themselves.'

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.

However, a lack of road safety education in schools, cheap loans for cars, notoriously easy driving tests, police failures to enforce road laws as well as endemic corruption and chronic under-investment in infrastructure hamper the efforts.
