Kind monks smash temple grounds to free dog trapped under sewer
Kind Buddhist monks smashed a concrete floor to free a frightened dog trapped under the sewer.
The orange-robed men heard the pooch crying in their temple compound after loud firecrackers were lit in Thewarat Temple in Ang Thong province, Thailand, on March 16.
After finding the spot where the creature had been stuck, the monks used a hammer to break through the structure and free the dog.
Footage shows the monks demolishing concrete at the Buddhist compound. The dog reportedly crawled into the narrow space to hide from the exploding sounds.
One of them handled a disc grinder to penetrate the hard cement before a colleague busted the structure with a hammer.
Onlooker Phra Nop said: ‘We couldn't just leave a dog to die under there, so we called everyone to help and began the operation.
‘The space was too cramped and could kill the dog by suffocation, so we decided it was the best way.'
The monks saw a glimmer of hope when the dog's legs emerged, and it was still moving.
A monk used a chisel to widen the opening even more while the others pulled it out.
The monk added: 'It took almost an hour before the dog was saved. Nevertheless, it was a very delightful moment.'
