Kind Buddhist monks rescued a pregnant cow stuck in thick mud.

The orange-robed religious devotee hiked the hill near the temple when they discovered a local's cattle was trapped in Chiang Mai province, Thailand on February 6.

When they reached the spot, they found the creature with all her limbs submerged under the sludge that was starting to dry up under the afternoon sun.

Footage shows the monks standing around the exhausted mother cow as she lay on the mud. Her baby was seen running around the area, appearing confused about what to do.

After assessing the situation, the monks started to dig up the mud from the creature using sticks and their hands.

They worked on freeing the animal with the farmers who asked for help.

Monk Phairat Nanta said: 'We heard that the locals needed help with the cow so we assisted them.'

When the rescuers dug out enough mud for the cow to move, they tied its upper body with a rope attached to a bamboo pole before the men carried her out together.

She ran away and reunited with her baby that had been waiting for her.

Monk Phairat added: ‘It is our pleasure to help them. We hope that the cow will live a long and healthy life.'
