A spa in Bangkok offers an unusual 'volcano sand massage' to customers hoping to relax and pamper themselves.

Guests are buried up to their necks in beads of heated, brown-red sand, akin to a sauna treatment. As they relax and sweat away, attendants give them a rubdown and facial massage to knead the tense knots out of their muscles.

The sand, which is sourced from volcanoes in Japan, is said to exfoliate the skin, detoxify the body, and improve circulation.

Visitors can indulge in a variety of other treatments at the spa, including a volcanic sand scrub, a full body massage, and a facial.

Managers of the Blue Ozone sap, which provides the luxurious hot bath, said it uses the natural healing properties of volcanic sand.

Satisfied customer Thanaporn, who is seen in the video, said: 'I normally have shoulder pain and neck pain, but after the massage, those parts felt instantly better.

'I feel the blood running through my whole body during the treatment. It was very hot and I also felt my heartbeat at the end of my fingertips.'

Spa manager Khun Kanan said: ‘The volcanic sand has more than 50 types of minerals. Visitors have to shower and get their blood pressure and weight checked before starting the treatment.

'Our therapists will cover the customer's body, then do a full body massage and scrub thoroughly.

'Unlike other types of spa treatments, this volcanic sand bath lowers your blood pressure and detoxifies your body through the pores. Athletes with injuries can also benefit from our treatment as the temperature will help their muscles relax.'
