Chef turns 80p pizza into ‘gourmet’ cheesecake – and YOU can do it too
A chef has gone viral after showing how he turned a budget pizza into a delicious cheesecake.
Content creator Danny Kim, 27, from Maryland, US, challenged chef Loic Sany to create a “gourmet” dish using a slice of cheese pizza.
Looking at the greasy snack, Loic says: “I’m actually thinking about turning your pizza into a pizza cheesecake.”
Loic, who featured in season five of the Food Network show Chopped, based the dish around a 7-Eleven pizza slice – which usually costs around $1 (£0.81).
He managed to turn it into a luxe dessert with a complete transformation, sharing the step-by-step recipe, featuring additional ingredients including yoghurt-coated pretzels and vanilla cookies.
Loic starts by pulling the cheese topping off of the pizza, before crushing the pretzels and biscuits alongside the pizza crust to make the base.
He then adds flour, butter and sugar and adds the mixture to cake tins, before baking them.
Next, he tackles the cheese cream frosting.
He uses a Slurpee iced drink – also purchased from 7-Eleven – to add a raspberry flavour, and melts it on the hob with lemon juice and sugar.
He whips some heavy cream to reach a medium peak, and melts some gelatin separately before combining the two.
He uses the cheese from the pizza and adds the creamy frosting from the cookies to it, before combining the cream-gelatin mixture.
Finally, he combines the three – placing the creamy frosting on top of the biscuit bases, setting it in the freezer, and topping it with the raspberry mixture mixed with whipped cream, plus a drizzle of the pure raspberry ‘sauce’.
The finished result is unrecognisable and looks fitting for a restaurant.
Danny and Loic both sample the dessert.
Danny says: “That’s the best cheesecake I’ve ever had, that’s amazing.”
He shared the clip on TikTok (@dannygrubs) with his 4.3 million followers, where the popular post racked up 218,000 likes and two million views.
One user commented: “It looks so good I can smell it.”
“Ain’t no way,” said another shocked viewer.
“Impressive,” someone else agreed.
One person said: “Man turned my favourite food into my favourite dessert excuse me?”
“I would've teared up eating that. IT LOOKS SO D*MN GOOD,” another viewer added.
Someone else commented: “Anything is possible.”
Another user wondered: “But does it taste like pizza?”
