Woman causes a stir by climbing and meditating on the head of China's Leshan Giant Buddha
A woman caused a stir by climbing and meditating on the head of southern China's Leshan Giant Buddha.
Video filmed in Leshan City in Sichuan Province on April 4, shows a woman calmly sitting cross-legged on the giant Buddha's head for meditation.
According to reports, the woman eventually descended on her own and was taken away by two police officers.
A spokesperson for the Leshan Giant Buddha scenic area committee said that the area behind the Buddha's head, where the woman climbed, has high protective railings, and tourists are not allowed to climb over them. The committee is currently investigating the incident.
It is unclear how the woman was able to climb over the protective railing and why she chose to sit on the Buddha's head.
As of April 6, the committee and local authorities have not released any information regarding whether the woman will face any consequences for her actions.
The video was provided by local media with permission.
