This is the gruesome moment a 10ft long python regurgitated a rooster it had devoured while escaping from animal handlers in Thailand.

The hungry snake had entered a house in Surin province and squeezed the farm animal to death before swallowing it whole on April 5.

Homeowner Tan, 56, called a rescue team to deal with the serpent after finding it lying sated with its belly bulging in his backyard.

When the specialists arrived, the python tried to flee through a drain, but was stuck due to its swollen stomach.

The team hauled it to a street outside, where it proceeded to expel its meal from its gut.

Stomach-turning footage shows the reptile stretching its jaws to regurgitate the whole chicken covered in slimy gut fluids. The bird emerged feet-first from its mouth and was deformed after being crushed by the python's powerful grip.

The volunteers caught and sealed the snake in a sack within 20 minutes. It was later released into its natural habitat.

Tan said: 'My Burmese fighting cock cost around 20,000 baht (590 USD). I was raising it to breed and sell its chicks to cockfighters.'

He added that he had previously called the rescue team three months ago, when another python had entered his house.

The reticulated python is found throughout Southeast Asia, where they live in forests, swamps, canals and even in cities, causing them to come into conflict with humans. The species is one of the world's largest snakes and can eat humans, cats, dogs, birds, rats and other snakes.
