The group of housewives in Laay Village, Karya Penggawa District, West Coast Regency, Lampung has successfully turned discarded banana peels into toothpicks and nuggets called "Nuget Kusang". Aside from having a savory and delicious taste, this processed product is also rich in carbohydrates, minerals, and vitamins that are good for health.

The process of turning banana peels into sticks and nuggets is relatively easy. Firstly, the banana peels are boiled and then mashed using a blender. After that, the mixture is combined with wheat flour and other seasonings. Once it is mixed evenly, the mixture is then steamed and cut into small pieces. To make nuggets, the mixture is then coated with breadcrumbs and fried.

Initially, the processing of banana peels into food was done by students from Lampung University who were conducting community service in West Coast Regency. The group of housewives in Laay Village was eager to continue the production process due to the abundance of banana trees in Lampung Province and the large amount of wasted banana peels.

In an effort to improve the economy of the locals, the local village government will support the development of culinary businesses from banana peels. This business has great potential to improve the local economy, considering that the number of tourists in West Coast Regency reaches hundreds of thousands every year. The village government is working to collaborate and motivate housewives, especially by allocating funds to micro, small, and medium enterprises in Laay Village.

The processed product made by the group of housewives from banana peels is currently being actively promoted and marketed using social media and by participating in local bazaars organized by the government. With a selling price of only $0.70 to $1.40 per package, this processed product is believed to be increasingly in demand by the community.
