Ben Thornbury, 18, took his community by storm after posting a series of what he called "crazy pothole golf" videos to his local Facebook group - driving a wedge between himself and the council.

The tongue-in-cheek clips feature the teenager putting a golf ball into numerous potholes littered across roads in Malmesbury, Wiltshire.

He also posed with a sign that read, "High street crazy pothole golf now open," in the background.

Thornbury told a local reporter: "We are very fed up as Wiltshire Council are just not acting and fixing these potholes so I had to come up with some creative way to get the council's attention and the best way was through social media.

"The potholes on Malmesbury High Street are a disgrace to the town! Not a good impression to visitors and certainly not good for vehicles.

"Maybe we should tour the country, playing golf in all the potholes and raise awareness of the pothole issue."

Councillor Caroline Thomas told the BBC that the council had been "working hard" to tackle the issue and that it had been recently awarded £3.6m from the Department for Transport's Pothole Fund which it will use to target hotspots.
