Tour boat explosion kills one and injures another in Thailand
One person was killed and another was injured when a tour boat exploded at a pier in Thailand.
The speedboat named Kalamang D 2, which makes trips to the Similan Islands, was docked at the Ban Thap Lamu Pier in Phang Nga province when it exploded on April 11 evening with three crew members onboard.
Shocking CCTV footage shows the moment of the blast, which sent smoking debris flying towards other boats.
Bystanders rushed to move the other vessels from the growing fire while awaiting rescue teams.
Panyawut Phothong, 26, and Aroon Chanpaksuan, 25, were found injured from the explosion, said to have occurred on the boat's bow.
Panyawut had been using the toilet when the blast struck him, leaving both of his legs broken.
Both workers were taken to the Andaman Hub Medical Centre, but Panyawut passed away on Wednesday morning April 12.
Lieutenant Kittiphoom of the Phang Nga Harbour Office said that the boat, with a gross tonnage of 15.64, had a license set to expire on November 13 this year.
He said: 'The CCTV doesn't show what caused the explosion. We are waiting to interview the crewman who was injured to find out if anything happened onboard to cause it.'
Investigations are ongoing to determine the extent of the damage and the cause of the explosion.
