One person died while four more were injured in a large blaze allegedly sparked by kids playing with fire in the Philippines.

Allanoden Boriongon, 42, was killed in the inferno after being trapped in his home in Barangay Pinagbuhatan in Pasig City, Metro Manila, on April 11.

Police Captain Catalino Gazmen Jr., officer-in-charge of Pasig Police Substation 5, said: 'He thought his child was still in the house, so he went back but was trapped.

'The residents here said they heard children playing with fire, which likely spread rapidly because the houses here are made of light, flammable construction materials.'

The Bureau of Fire Protection said the fire that started past noon was extinguished at 1:12 PM.

Four other locals, Roland Gumanas, 47, Reymund Reyes, 31, Angelo Lupit, 27, and Kevin Gonzales, 25, received first aid from paramedics for their burns.

Authorities said around 55 houses were destroyed, with some 100 families left homeless and taking shelter at an evacuation centre.

Pasig City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office Chief Bryant Wong has assured the affected residents that they will receive aid from the local government.

The Bureau of Fire Protection reported that 104 people have died in fires across the Philippines since January this year.
