A deadly cobra snake was seen on a CCTV slithered past a baby's cot at a family's home.

The black serpent was spotted moving across the floor of the empty nursery next to rubber puzzle mats in Samut Sakhon province, Thailand, on April 10 evening.

While the child was away in the other room sleeping, the parents said they were relieved to have been altered by the sensor on their app and found the 2ft-long venomous creature in time as it could have easily hidden under toys and pillows.

CCTV footage shows the snake slithered on the floor beside the baby bed fence. It paused upon reaching the gates but went along after a few seconds. A housing estate security guard caught the creature after the terrified parents saw it. They later had a meeting outside.

A horrified parent said: ‘We have lived in the house for about six months. There were no problems at first. This is an expensive development so we thought we shouldn't have any problems, until about a month ago.

‘The snake sightings became more often. Most of the time, they are baby cobras. We fear for the safety of our families.'

The resident added they had found an estimated 30 cobras slithering nearby their property, including on the road.

Despite the alarming number of cobras spotted in the small street, no one has been bitten by the creatures.

District chief Banphot Chandrawong inspected several properties and spoke with house owners. He explained that snakes live in the wild and can venture into properties.

The government office coordinated with local animal rescuers to clear the village of snakes and find the nest where the baby cobras had been emerging from.

Researchers found that 7,000 people are treated for snake bites each year in Thailand. Suchai Suteparuk from the Division of Toxicology at Chulalongkorn University reported that 30 of those die, with cobras being the biggest killer.

Baby cobras are more dangerous than adults as they are not experienced enough when to inflict dry bites - without venom - or to limit the amount of venom released into a victim.
