Police in Valencia, Spain, have freed eight victims of sexual exploitation during a crackdown on brothels in the area.

The raid on a shabby brothel resulted in the arrests of five suspects, including female vice bosses who had tricked women into prostitution and drugs.

The police described the living conditions as "subhuman," with sex workers forced to perform specific sex acts based on how much clients paid. They also had to take part in "white parties" involving sex and drugs.

The women were kept in prison-like conditions and were monitored using surveillance cameras. The suspects face charges of forming a criminal organisation, organising illegal prostitution, and breaching public health regulations. Investigations are ongoing.
