Protest Spain’s new animal welfare law last February

Last February congress has finally given the green light to the new animal welfare law, which will particularly affect pet owners.
Protesters gathered to show disarmament with the law, legal insecurities and lack of scientific background of this law are in the heart of the protest.
Many owner of animals that will banned to keep at home such a as parrots, protested in this demonstration

The main points of the law are:
-Many animals that will no longer be allowed to be kept as pets include spiders, certain birds that are not native to Spain such as parakeets and love birds, Vietnamese pigs, hedgehogs, turtles and exotic reptiles like snakes, lizards and chameleons.
-Dogs and cats will not be allowed to be kept in confined spaces
-Ban on pets in shop windows
-You will need to take a training course to buy or adopt a dog
-The law will also implement a set of rules to control the breeding and sale of animals.
-Cock fights will be prohibited
-No wild animals allowed in circuses or other cultural performances
The law will no affect hunting dogs, as many wanted to be included finally they are out of legislation
The reform of the penal code, which accompanies the law, increases the penalties for mistreatment which can land offenders with up to a year
and a half in prison, if the animal requires veterinary care.
