Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida was evacuated on Saturday, April 15, after an apparent smoke or pipe bomb was thrown at the venue where he was scheduled to give an open-air speech in Wakayama, followed by a loud explosion.

Police arrested a man following the incident, and Kishida was later confirmed to be safe.
