At approximately 2:30 pm on Sunday, April 16, 2023, two males riding motorcycles in Atlanta traffic drove in an unsafe manner in traffic as they traveled down several miles of Candler Road in DeKalb County in the Decatur area near the highway 285 on ramp. They drove their motorcycles with the front wheel raised above their heads for a lengthy amount of time to show off. This is not a safe way of operating their motorcycles on public streets and is demonstrative of the ongoing issues the region has with unsafe driving practices. It appears these men wanted to show off for each other, or perhaps to those of us driving around them. In reality, it happened because these men have little consideration for anyone but themselves. Their wheelies held back traffic and slowed everyone behind them because we were giving them room in case they wrecked their motorcycles by not riding them in a safe manner on a busy road. While I applaud their sense of fun, driving public streets means we respect the other drivers on the road and operate our vehicles in a safe manner to be careful for ourselves and our neighbors on the road. Wheelies should be done in a controlled environment on a track, off road, private road where if an accident occurs the men would be protected from a driver running them over and they would protect other drivers from the exposure of a potential tragic end.
