Italian artist Dario Gambarin used a tractor, plough, and rotary harrow to carve a portrait of Pablo Picasso on a 25,000-square-metre field outside Castagnaro, Verona Province, Italy.

The artwork, titled "Free Picasso!", was created to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the painter's passing.

Gambarin's land art, which he calls "eco land art," is ephemeral and created without technology, using only the stubble left after the harvest. He relies on his imagination and sense of space and proportion to execute his portraits, which last from a few hours to a week before deteriorating.

Gambarin hopes that his work inspires others to respect the planet.
