An American tourist has filed a complaint with police after he was attacked by bar security guards on a Thai island.

Bryce Alan Terzian, 33, was having fun with friends at the Laguna Plaza in Phuket past midnight on April 9 when he was caught in an argument with a 'hostile' DJ.

When the fight escalated into a scuffle, the bar's guards reportedly descended on him to beat him up.

The reveller recalled his experience, saying: 'On my way out of the nightclub, at around 4 in the morning, I had a conversation with the DJ. I tried to be respectful. However, he was very hostile and rude to me, and some words were exchanged.

'I tried to calm the situation down. However, one thing led to another, and the altercation became physical, where we pushed each other and punches were thrown. During the physical altercation, I remember getting punched from the side, from behind, and I got swarmed by what I can see now was security.

'There were many security guards, punching me, kicking me, and kneeing me. I knew I was outnumbered at this point so I did not try to retaliate or fight back. I tried to surrender.'

Despite being pinned to the ground, one security guard was caught on CCTV stomping on the tourist angrily.

A battered Bryce went to the hospital to have his broken nose treated. His Thai friends later accompanied him to the Chalong Police Station, acting as his translator as he filed a report.

Bryce claimed the officers initially did not want to act on his complaint because he allegedly started the conflict.

He said: 'I take responsibility for my actions. I know that my initial conflict with the DJ did not necessarily need to happen. However, this was a situation that was one person versus one person and security's job is to separate us and de-escalate the situation rather than pounce on me and beat me up.'

When police saw the CCTV footage and the one-sided beating, they made a report and vowed to take legal action.

As of April 16, Bryce said there had been no updates on the case, prompting him to reach out to local media instead.

He said: 'I just want to make sure that the person responsible for kicking me while I'm on the ground is held accountable.

'This is my first time leaving the United States. I chose Phuket because I heard how amazing it is, how amazing the people are. My experience here so far has been nothing short of incredible. I've met some very great Thai people who brought me in as family. They've been nothing but courteous and kind, and my entire experience here has been very good, except for Laguna Plaza.

'I love Phuket and I hope I can stay here for a long time.'
