This is the heartwarming moment firemen abseiled down a cliff-face to save a stranded dog in Bristol, England.

Firefighters from the Temple Fire Station were called to Yate Quarry after the spaniel plunged into the abyss on Sunday April 16.

The dog had plunged 30ft down from the top and broken a leg, but it's tail was still wagging as it gratefully greeted the rescuers.

Officers from Avon & Somerset Police's drone squad helped the operation. A firefighter was able to winch themselves down the side of the steep quarry and rescue the stranded pooch.

Footage captured from the drone shows the nine-month-old black and white springer spaniel perched precariously on a steep ledge - where it had fallen while on an evening walk with it's owners.

A spokesman said: 'Afterwards a quick trip to the vets diagnosed a broken leg, now its home to start the recovery. Wishing the little pup a swift recovery.'
