A group of dogs chased a lone wild elephant away from their home.

Four fierce pooches sprinted towards the jumbo that was about ten times their size when it wandered into a property in Chachoengsao province, Thailand on April 9.

Footage shows the guard dogs ganging up on the bigger animal. The elephant ran back in the direction of the forest while making trumpeting sounds.

Onlooker Jin said: ‘These dogs are great at doing their tasks. They didn't let the elephant near their home.'

Thailand has an estimated 2,000 Asian elephants living in the wild - down from 100,000 a century ago - and around 3,000 in captivity owned privately. In the wild they are seen wandering freely among protected forests, occasionally appearing on the roads that run through them.

There is conflict when they come into contact with humans on rural roads and in villages so wildlife rangers are tasked with monitoring their movements.
