Thai beauty queen 'abducts her own boyfriend for ransom because he didn't pay her enough'
A Thai beauty queen was arrested for allegedly abducting her own boyfriend in a plastic box and demanding a ransom 'because he didn't pay her enough'.
Phetchlada Saengsakul, or Nampetch, 24, had been dating the Chinese businessman for more than a year but their relationship deteriorated after his monthly payments to her fell short 'of what she deserved'.
The part-time model allegedly hired five accomplices to kidnap her lover Wang Nanfeng, 30, from an upmarket new-build apartment in Bangkok, Thailand on April 14.
Using Nampetch's keycard, the group barged into Wang's room on the 17th floor, bound his hands and feet, and stuffed him into a large plastic box. They borrowed a luggage trolley from the porter and crammed him inside before wheeling him into the carpark, where he was shoved into a BMW he had gifted Nampetch.
The businessman was allegedly driven to Hua Hin in the southern province of Prachuap Khiri Khan, and held for ransom.
The gang reportedly coerced him into making money transfers totalling 3.93 million THB (around 116,450 USD) to multiple bank accounts.
They also video called Wang's friend, Chinese national Yu, to demand more money. A bruised and beaten Wang reportedly appeared on the call, telling Yu to just pay the ransom for his release and to not call the police.
Despite the victim's pleas, Yu notified Lumpini police on April 15 to report Wang's abduction.
Investigators found that Wang had dated Nampetch for a year and that the couple broke up three months ago. They had recently reconciled before the abduction, which they believe was part of her plan to extort cash from him.
Officers believe Wang had been targetted because Nampetch was aware of his wealth. Police said he would be reluctant to approach authorities as he is wanted for fraud amounting to 12 million yuan (1.7 million USD) in China. There had been no Interpol notice, allowing him to enter Thailand with ease.
After receiving the ransom, the suspects released Wang at a restaurant on April 15. However, he then attacked his captors and was himself arrested for assault, leading the bizarre kidnap plot to come to light.
On April 17, Metropolitan deputy Police Major-General Noppasin Phoonsawat announced that they have arrested six suspects.
He said the alleged culprits were identified by their aliases of Guy, Kob, June, Frog, Joe, and the and Wang's ex-girlfriend Nampetch.
The policeman said: 'They were arrested for joint kidnapping for ransom of a person over 15, joint extortion, and jointly imprisoning another person.
'Each person has been detained in custody while multiple witnesses are interviewed.'
Nampetch during interrogations reportedly told police she knew Wang was a 'grey capitalist' conducting shady business in Thailand. She said this made him an easy mark as he would not go to the police. She added that he gave her a monthly allowance of 100,000 THB (2,915 USD) during their relationship 'but nothing when they broke up'.
She said: 'I knew how much money he was making but he just gave me such a small amount each month. When I asked him for more we would argue. When we broke up I had no money. I deserved more from him, because we were together for a year.'
Officers said they have so far recovered 2.3 million THB (67,094 USD) of Wang's money.
Meanwhile, alleged fraudster Wang is currently being detained by Thai immigration to be deported to Communist China.
