A huge fire broke out in the east building of the inpatient department at Beijing Changfeng Hospital, killing at least 29 people.

Twelve people, including the director and deputy director of the hospital, have been detained by police for questioning.

Terrifying video filmed on April 18 shows smoke rising out of the building and some people, including doctors, hiding on the outdoor air conditioning units.

A person was seen sliding down a window on a bedsheet to land on a canopy.

Upon receiving the report, the fire department, public security, health and emergency departments all rushed to the scene to respond.

At around 1:33 pm, the fire was extinguished. At 3:30 pm, the rescue operation at the scene was concluded, with a total of 71 patients being evacuated and transferred.

4月18日12时57分，丰台区消防救援支队接警：北京长峰医院住院部东楼发生火情。接警后，消防、公安、卫健、应急等部门即赴现场处置。13时33分许，现场明火被扑灭。15时30分，现场救援工作结束，共疏散转移患者71人。截至18时，经转院救治无效，21人不幸死亡。事故原因正在进一步调查。
现场视频显示，有人从窗户爬出，抓着床单往下跳到彩钢雨棚上。包括医生在内，多人躲在空调外机上。长峰医院回应称，是住院部起火，已疏散人员，火灾原因暂不清楚。
