Heroic man jumps into river to save drowning 5-year-old in China
A heroic man saved a 5-year-old boy who had fallen into a river in southern China.
The video was filmed in the city of Yichun in Jiangxi Province on April 15.
The river was fast flowing and the boy struggled to keep his head above water. Thankfully, some bystanders noticed the incident and shouted for help.
At that crucial moment, the station manager of the Hongping Maintenance Station, Yao Quan, happened to pass by the scene after finishing his patrol duties.
Upon hearing the cries for help, he immediately rushed to the scene and without hesitation, jumped into the river to rescue the boy. He swam through the swift current and managed to bring the boy safely to the riverbank.
According to reports, the river was deep and fast flowing due to water being released from an upstream reservoir. Though there were many people on the bank, no one dared to enter the water to rescue the boy.
Yao, however, didn't think twice and swiftly took off his pants before diving into the water.
"I didn't think about anything at the time, I just took off my trousers and jumped into the river to save the child. We are all parents, and children are very important to a family." said the 54-year-old Yao Quan.
The entire rescue operation lasted only one or two minutes, and the boy is now safe and sound.
After the incident, the boy's father, Qiu Xiaolong, rushed to the riverbank to express his gratitude to Yao.
The video was provided by local media with permission.
