Car owner injured when air compressor explodes in his face
This is the shocking moment a car owner was injured when the vehicle's air compressor exploded in his face during repairs.
CCTV footage shows driver Suttipunt Tornrin, 40, inspecting the engine compartment of his Suzuki Swift, which he had brought into an auto garage in Chonburi province, Thailand, to be checked on April 20.
As he was fiddling with the parts, the compressor suddenly blew up, sending a blast of smoke and debris towards Suttipunt's face and causing him to stumble backwards.
A rescue team was notified and found the man with multiple injuries on his face, neck, and chest. Some of the shrapnel had also struck his leg, leaving a portion of bone exposed. He was rushed to the Chonburi Hospital for treatment.
Suttipunt said: 'At least I found out what the problem was. I wasn't expecting that to happen. It hit me directly in my face.'
Pichit Buachan, a mechanic at the garage, said: 'The victim brought his car to the shop because its fan was not working properly. I disassembled and repaired it before testing the air conditioning, but the owner may have accidentally touched the air compressor and caused it to explode.'
Rescuer Phadungpol Wattanasomboondee said: 'In my 10 years as a rescuer, there have rarely been incidents like this. We don't know why the car exploded since authorities are still investigating the cause.
'During this hot weather, people should also be careful of overworking their air conditioners.'
