A street vendor in southern China was left unconscious after a stranger approached him for a chat and proceeded to put a mysterious ointment on his back.

The CCTV footage was filmed in the city of Liuzhhou in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on April 18.

The vendor, Mr Wei, said the man claimed to be from a martial arts school and offered to help with his back pain using "Qi Gong," a traditional Chinese practice.

The man then sold Wei a piece of ointment for 60 yuan (£7), claiming it would help regulate his body. But after applying the ointment, Wei passed out and only regained consciousness after the stranger removed it and pinched his acupuncture point.

Witnesses have reported seeing the incident and police have since taken the suspect into custody for questioning. Meanwhile, the ointment has been sent for testing to determine what it contains.

Wei was rushed to the hospital but doctors could find no trace of the ointment in his system and he has since reported feeling normal.

The investigation is ongoing and further updates will be provided as they become available.

当事摊主韦先生称：“我根本就不认识他，他来找我聊天，说他是武术学院的，问我有没有小朋友想报名学武术，后来他又说看我腰不好，要用气功帮我看看。”陌生男子在他腰后左右两边各点了一下，他感觉有一点烫，持续了大约一秒钟，就开始感觉头有点晕，这名男子却说是用气功打通了血脉。“然后他就给我推销膏药，说可以帮我调理，卖60块钱一片。我本来想加个微信就让他走了，他却说贴了膏药再加微信。”韦先生说，贴上一片膏药后，他就失去了知觉，醒来后头还晕晕乎乎的，持续了2个多小时才恢复正常。韦先生去了医院，医生说药物不会残留，也检查不出问题来，直到19日中午他的身体也没有出现异常。
据了解目前警方已将男子带回了派出所，膏药也被送去了相关部门检测，暂时还没有检测结果，具体情况还在进一步调查当中。
