A woman's piercing scream startled a mouse to sudden death in southern China.

CCTV footage filmed in the city of Shaodong in Hunan Province on April 17, shows a worker at a convenience store being scared out of her wits by a sudden appearance of a mouse at the checkout counter.

The mouse darted out from under the employee's feet and was immediately frightened to death by the worker's piercing screams.

According to a woman named Shasha, the mouse was believed to have come from outside the store and was indeed scared to death.

The tiny rodent's heart was too small, and due to its fast metabolism, its heart rate had to beat rapidly. Overwhelming fear could have resulted in excessive stress on the heart's blood supply, leading to heart rupture and death.

The deceased mouse has since been disposed of in a trash can.
