Ivy Day was a stressful one, writes Diego Paz.

"I had to go to school to work on assembly prep and I had work in the afternoon. Therefore, I wouldn’t be able to open the decisions until I got home around 9 PM. Prior to the acceptance, I had been rejected from Columbia University and USC. Therefore, when the moment came to open Yale’s decision, I accepted that whatever was going to happen was going to happen. The odds did not seem in my favor. As a first-gen low-income student, I felt extremely stressed about these decisions. I knew I put a lot of time and effort into the application and I was extremely personal in my writing. Yale’s acceptance comes in the form of a video of dancing bulldogs and the fight song playing. When I opened my decision and saw that a video was ready for me to press play, I felt my first wave of disbelief. Then, pressing the button, I automatically knew that the decision was an acceptance. I quickly ran to show my mom and she FREAKED OUT. You can hear her screams. She is very proud of me and I am very proud that my work paid off."
